Not Just Words | Mark 1:21-34
Introduction
This passage shows that Jesus’ ministry begins not with long speeches, but with visible authority in action. From the start, Mark reveals that Jesus’ authority is divine, shown clearly through His works.
1. An authority that teaches with truth:
Jesus teaches unlike the scribes. His words carry weight, expose the heart, and demand obedience.
2. An authority that subdues the enemy:
Jesus directly confronts and defeats evil with a single command, revealing His absolute authority.
3. An authority that heals and restores:
Jesus approaches people with compassion, heals the sick, and restores the broken, using His power to lift others up.
Conclusion
Jesus is revealed as the promised King whose authority teaches, defeats evil, and restores with grace. The question is not whether we admire His authority, but whether we will surrender to it.
