From Fishermen to Disciples | Mark 1:16-20

Introduction

The passage shows that discipleship does not begin when people decide to seek Jesus, but when Jesus, by sovereign grace, comes near and calls. In the middle of ordinary life, Jesus interrupts routine and completely changes the direction of life.

1. A call that disrupts routine: Jesus calls ordinary people while they are working, interrupting everyday life and redirecting their entire course.

2. A promise that reshapes who we are: Jesus not only calls people to follow Him, but promises to transform their identity.

3. A response that reveals whom we follow: The disciples respond immediately, leaving behind security and stability to follow Christ.

Conclusion

Discipleship begins with the grace of the King who calls. Jesus steps into ordinary life, reshapes identity, and produces obedience. The call remains the same today: “Follow Me.”
