The Servant King | Philippians 2:1-11

Introduction

This year we begin a new series in God’s Word as we walk through the Gospel of Mark to see Jesus clearly as our Servant King. He is the true King who came to serve and the perfect Servant who reigns over all. We want to grow as disciples who walk in humility, unity, and mission.

Main Idea

We follow the Servant King by living in humility, unity, and mission.

1. Live with the same mind in Christ (Philippians 2:1–4)

  • Paul reminds us of Christ’s encouragement, love, and Spirit. We must live united in one purpose.

  • Humility conquers selfish ambition and calls us to serve.

  • Illustration: Rowing a canoe—without unity you spin; with unity you move forward.

  • Application: Do you serve others or expect to be served?

    2. Have the mindset of Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5–8)

  • Jesus, though God, emptied Himself and became a servant.

  • He obeyed to the point of death. Isaiah 53 foretold this.

  • The Gospel: Jesus died for our sin.

  • Application: Following Christ means surrendering pride.

  • Invitation: We come empty; He receives us in grace.

    3. Worship and follow Jesus as Lord over all (Philippians 2:9–11)

  • The Father exalted Jesus above all.

  • Every knee will bow before Him.

  • Jesus is God and Lord over all.

Discipleship Vision for the Year

We don’t just want to attend church, but grow as disciples who follow Jesus together.
